History of Evergreen Islamic Center

Evergreen Islamic Center (EIC) started out as a satellite mosque and community center in the Evergreen foothills under the South Bay Islamic Association (SBIA) umbrella. SBIA is a multi-cultural, community service, and religious organization that was established in 1978 with the goal of providing Islamic services to the community.

As the Muslim community in the Bay Area grew, so did the demand for more places of worship. The Evergreen property was purchased in 1989, and we have been praying there since 1996. The original mosque, a redesign of the interior of the 3-bedroom house, undertaken by volunteers is still operational, pending the completion of a new mosque on the same grounds.

EIC is open for prayers five times a day and Jumu’ah prayers, EIC has been active in spreading knowledge holding regular religious classes (Quran and Tafseer) as well as secular (SAT prep) classes. In addition, a monthly Family program is in place which brings and binds the community together. Alhamdulillah

With community continuing to grow, in 2012, SBIA management team in conjunction with community leaders agreed to operate the facility as an independent entity. EIC was incorporated with an independent charter in the State of California in August of 2014, and is registered with the U.S. IRS as a 501(c )(3) – Non-Profit Tax Exempt Religious Organization.

EIC supports a rapidly growing Muslim community. In anticipation of the demands and needs, a long-term construction project was planned for this site to accommodate the necessities of this community. Alhamdulillah, a New Masjid has been in construction in earnest over the last 3-years. Once completed we hope to have a 17,000 square-feet facility to meet the aspirations of a committed and vibrant community. Insha’Allah. All of this has been possible primarily due to the Will and Blessings of Allah (SWT) and due to the very generous support of our community members and tireless efforts of many dedicated volunteers.
