PRESS RELEASE – Sunday, April 9, 2017
— We condemn the murderous attack on Coptic churches in Egypt on Palm Sunday by terrorists —
We at the Evergreen Islamic Center unequivocally condemn the suicide bombings in the Coptic churches in Alexandria and the Nile Delta city of Tanta in Egypt on Palm Sunday that took the lives of 44 of our Christian sisters and brothers, including children. Our hearts go out to the survivors and to the families of victims whose religious celebration turned into one of the worst nightmares imaginable.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s declaration of a three-month state of emergency will mean nothing unless the masterminds behind this horrendous act are caught and swiftly brought to justice. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings. We must all unite in helping to defeat and destroy this terrorist organization that is waging genocide on innocent people and on civilization. No matter what these killers may claim, they represent the worst of humanity. We stand in solidarity with our Christian sisters and brothers in Egypt and around the world and offer them our full and unconditional support in this moment of incomprehensible sorrow and tragedy.
