Construction Update

2014 Review: Evergreen Masjid Project made significant progress. We completed two significant project work items of Steel and Concrete and started on the next development phase of covering the exposed steel structure. Both these tasks were arduous, expensive, required significant planning and tested the patience of our community. Alhamdulillah, with The Almighty’s blessings and your continued support we persevered.

2015 Review: We started the year with a shell and by the end of the year our Masjid had taken its final shape and looks complete. Masha‘Allah! We are pleased to report that majority of the exterior work was completed which included metal work, roofing, stucco, tiles and paint. There was tremendous progress throughout the year. We are grateful to our community who continued their support towards the project.

2016 Review: We made significant progress throughout the year, both on the outside as well as on the inside. This phase of construction required exceptional program management and coordination as there were multiple tasks running in parallel. Inside of the facility is beginning to take shape with walls, ceiling, windows and doors in place. Alhamdulillah, with The Almighty’s blessings and tremendous support from the community we enter 2017 with the vigor to take the project over the finish line.

2017: Our hope and prayers are to complete the project expeditiously. Insha’Allah! While the main structure has a finished look there are several tasks that need to be completed before crossing the finish line. Latest update from May:

Inside work: Lots of smaller tasks are in progress simultaneously and with the blessings of Allah (SWT), we are making tremendous progress. Insides on the main structure are looking complete with a fresh coat of paint on the walls. We have completed the installation of exterior doors to enter the facility, few interior doors remain and we expect to install them soon. We have also completed the installation of lighting fixtures at the main floor. Tile work is in progress in the Wudu (Ablution) area for men’s and women’s section as well as the foyer. Once these tasks are complete along with the permanent pavement of path we will start the installation of carpet. Lots of exciting work ahead of us prior to beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan!

Outside work: In addition to several tasks mentioned above, work on the outside has resumed now that we that the rainy season has subsided. We have completed the water connection from San Jose City and the installation of fire hydrants inside the property line. Paving of portion of the parking lot is in progress. This will allow us to have additional parking spaces inside the premises of the facility and alleviate parking challenges for our senior members. There is active construction area with heavy machines still at the premises so please exercise extreme caution!

These are arduous and costly tasks which span multiple months. We ask our community to continue to pray for expeditious, smooth and safe completion of the work. These are electrifying times at EIC as we continue to make progress towards our goal and witness the creation of a magnificent Masjid. We have been collecting pictures of construction over the last few years and felt that it was important to share this journey with our community and supporters.

As we work towards the completion of the construction project, we have identified 3 critical tasks that will serve as stepping stones towards building occupancy. Our intention and goal is to secure funding for these tasks before Ramadan starts.

Here are the 3 tasks:

  1. Permanent Water Line:  This requires attaching the new structure and the fire hydrants to the main water line from the city.
  2. Fire Hydrant Installation: Is an essential component for the overall safety of the building and a requirement for emergency vehicles.
  3. Asphalt Road Access: Over the last year we have improved access and parking situation inside the facility. Time is now to convert the temporarily paved path and parking area into permanent asphalt road to ease driving and parking for our congregation.

Alhamdulillah, due to Allah’s grace, EIC held a very successful open house on April 29th.  Over 300 guests attended the event and enjoyed the delicious Halal KFC lunch and joined in for the dua’s by Mufti Muddasir and Imam Tahir Anwar.

The main objective of the day was to show case the recent construction progress and to raise funds for the tasks in progress. We want to offer our sincere appreciation to you for your generosity in helping us to generate $100,000 towards the goal — Subhan-Allah! Thank you very much for coming through and opening your hearts and wallets during our time of great need.  As a result of the funds raised, we decreased the gap of monies required to complete the ongoing tasks to $200,000.

Following are some ways you can help raise the required funds:

  • Donate $5K / person. All we would need is 40 people to reach our target
  • Sponsor a Musalla ($2000 ea) on behalf of your loved ones
  • Fulfill any open pledges
  • Reach out to your immediate and extended families as well as friend’s circle towards raising this amount

Masjid’s need is now and your prompt support will get us closer to the goal. Our humble appeal to you is to help with raising the funds and continue to pray for the success and expeditious completion of the project. Once again, we thank you very much for your past, current, and ongoing support. Insha-Allah, with just little more push, we will be able to keep the construction on track.
